FinyxFin protects your financial data at two levels: App Lock prevents unauthorized access to the app itself, and Data Protection (Sync Backup + Device Safety Backup) ensures your data is backed up and recoverable. Configure both in Settings.

🔐 App Lock

When App Lock is enabled, FinyxFin requires authentication before you can access your financial data. Configure it in Settings → App Lock.

Supported Authentication Methods

App Lock Settings

Lock Timeout

Choose how long FinyxFin waits before requiring authentication again after you leave the app:

Timeout Behavior
Immediately Authentication required every time you return to the app
After 30 seconds Locks if you're away for more than 30 seconds
After 1 minute Locks after 1 minute in background
After 5 minutes Locks after 5 minutes in background
After 10 minutes Locks after 10 minutes in background

Lock When Backgrounded

When enabled, FinyxFin locks when you switch to another app or press the home button. When disabled, the app only locks on full close. This setting is on by default.

🔒 How App Lock Works

Authentication happens entirely on your device using Apple's Local Authentication framework and your device's Secure Enclave. FinyxFin never stores biometric data and never transmits authentication information anywhere. App Lock settings sync across your devices via iCloud so all your devices have the same lock configuration.

📦 Backup Settings

Configure your backup layers in Settings → Data Protection.

Sync Backup

Stores backup files in your iCloud Drive at iCloud Drive → FinyxFin → Backups. Keep this enabled to ensure your data is recoverable if you lose your device or delete the app.

Device Safety Backup

Stores backup files locally on this device at On My Device → FinyxFin → Backups. Provides fast, offline recovery without needing internet.

Automatic Backups

Runs at app launch once the configured interval has passed. Options:

  • Twice Daily — Every 12 hours
  • Daily — Every 24 hours (recommended)
  • Weekly — Every 7 days
  • Monthly — Every 30 days

Keep Backups For

How long automatic backups are retained before being cleaned up:

  • 30 Days
  • 60 Days
  • 90 Days (recommended default)
  • Keep All (no automatic deletion)

Safety Snapshot Before Restore

When enabled, FinyxFin automatically saves a snapshot of your current data before every restore. This gives you a way to get back to where you were if the restore doesn't produce the result you expected. Strongly recommended to keep this on.

☁️ iCloud Sync

FinyxFin uses Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) to keep your financial data in sync across all your devices. This is separate from Sync Backup — iCloud sync keeps your live data current across devices in real time, while Sync Backup stores point-in-time backup files in iCloud Drive.

What Syncs via iCloud

  • Accounts, transactions, transfers
  • Bills, loans, goals
  • Budgets and custom categories
  • Investments and holdings
  • App preferences (theme, currency, App Lock settings)

iCloud Status

The iCloud sync status appears in Settings → iCloud Sync:

Syncing… Sync in progress
Synced All changes are up to date
Offline No internet — changes save locally and sync when reconnected
Error Sync issue — check your iCloud account in device Settings
ℹ️ iCloud Storage Usage

FinyxFin uses less than 10 MB of iCloud storage even with years of financial data. It uses your private iCloud database — your data is never shared with or visible to other iCloud users.

🛡️ Privacy & Security

Your Data Stays With You

  • No FinyxFin servers. Your financial data is never sent to or stored on FinyxFin's servers.
  • iCloud only. The only external service used is Apple's iCloud, which operates under Apple's privacy policy.
  • No third-party sharing. No data is shared with advertisers, analytics services, or other third parties.

Authentication Security

  • Biometric authentication uses your device's Secure Enclave
  • FinyxFin stores no biometric data
  • Authentication evaluation happens entirely on-device
  • No authentication data is transmitted anywhere

Data Encryption

  • On-device data is protected by iOS and macOS file system encryption
  • iCloud data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple
  • Backup files in iCloud Drive are encrypted by Apple's iCloud security
  • Enabling Advanced Data Protection on your Apple ID adds end-to-end encryption to iCloud data

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I use a passcode instead of Face ID or Touch ID?
Yes. If biometric authentication is unavailable on your device or fails, FinyxFin automatically falls back to your device passcode.
Q: Do my App Lock settings apply to all my devices?
Yes. App Lock settings (enabled/disabled, lock timeout, lock when backgrounded) sync across your devices via iCloud so your security preference is consistent everywhere.
Q: Can I turn off iCloud sync?
iCloud sync is managed at the system level. To disable it, go to your device Settings → Apple ID → iCloud and toggle off FinyxFin. Data will continue to save locally but won't sync to other devices.
Q: What happens to my data when I'm offline?
All data is saved locally first. When you regain internet connectivity, FinyxFin syncs the changes to iCloud automatically. No data is lost while offline.
Q: Does FinyxFin see my financial data?
No. FinyxFin operates entirely on-device and via your personal iCloud. We have no access to your data at any time.
Q: What is the difference between iCloud Sync and Sync Backup?
iCloud Sync keeps your live data current in real time across your devices via CloudKit. Sync Backup stores point-in-time backup files in your iCloud Drive so you can restore to a previous state. Both use iCloud but serve different purposes.
